I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of effective psychotherapy. To build this relationship, I focus on three essential qualities: trust, caring, and respect. As your therapist, I care about what you want to accomplish in your life. My primary commitment is to help you achieve your life goals and become the best version of yourself. I am willing to start wherever you are at and work with you to make practical changes that will lead to a more fulfilling life. Ultimately, I aim to empower you, at whatever age or stage of life you are, to actively participate in your own growth and fulfillment.

My approach focuses on a strengths-based, client-centred, anti-oppressive, and critical queer theory perspective. I draw from emotion-focused therapy (EFT), psychodynamic, cognitive behaviour therapy, solution-focused and motivational interviewing approaches. My specialty focuses on queer issues, anxiety, depression, post-trauma symptoms, work-related stress, and post-separation parental counselling.

My therapeutic approach is client-centered, engaging and collaborative. We will work together to discover what you value and find ways to help you move towards what matters most, even when life feels unmanageable.

In therapy, I will work with you to change your relationship to your pain and suffering using a multi-dimensional approach focusing on presence and the practice of “doing hard things.” I offer a warm, personal approach that fosters a strong therapeutic bond, motivation and self-compassion. I aim to create a space where even the most challenging thoughts and feelings, the ones we feel no one else experiences, can be brought into the room. We will explore how avoiding pain, anxiety, and suffering can intensify these experiences. Through this work, you will be able to gain clarity on how your current relationship with pain, depression, and anxiety is holding you back. Ultimately, our work together will help you learn to live a life that aligns with your core values and aspirations.

I am fascinated by the science of emotions, neurobiology and neuroplasticity and how they inform our capacity to change.

With individuals, my role is to be your emotion coach - help you understand your emotions and how you can harness them to meet your needs. This may apply to processing past traumas, changing unhelpful patterns, or taking your personal growth to the next level.

In couple therapy, I will help you build effective communication skills and identify the cycles that get your relationship in trouble, create distance or hostility and ultimately get in the way of the balance most partners want to achieve: being separate enough to be their own person and together enough to enjoy the comfort and excitement of having someone in your corner.

I bring authenticity and humour to our interactions and am an active participant in our conversations. I combine a great deal of empathy and compassion with gentle calls to accountability and change.

My therapeutic stance is one of respect and active engagement. I like to explore resiliency, knowledge, aspirations and resources so you and I can have conversations that highlight what is going well while gently redirecting thinking and behavioural patterns that may be interfering with your capacity to feel connected to yourself and others.

In couple and family therapy I will work with you and your loved one(s) to explore the multi-dimensional emotion dynamics that influence communication and connection. I offer a respectful, collaborative approach that promotes personal realizations, acceptance and self-compassion. We will explore emotions and needs through an attachment lens to uncover patterns of thinking, expressing and communicating. Through this work, you will be able to gain clarity of your personal needs and uncover new bonding possibilities, new responses to each other’s distress, and ways to maintain emotional connections.

Throughout my clinical career, the feedback I have received is that individuals feel safe and valued while rediscovering a sense of hope and insight.

Our feelings are a compass pointing toward personal growth and movement. I have learned to listen to and respect these feelings and I can help you to do the same. Within this warm and attentive environment, our conversation can unfold at your own pace. Together we can sit with uncertainty, face hard decisions, and rewrite “dances” that no longer serve you in important relationships. I will pull from various methods flexibly to steer us there.

My approach is honed through years of clinical work with children and families. Through this developmental lens, I can help you bring context to your concerns, see unhelpful patterns, and change portions of the picture that don’t serve you so you can show up differently in small moments and in big ones. My approach is non-judgemental. I want to help you develop acceptance for what is and commit to creating what could be. I look forward to helping you be and achieve.
